Summary of Bells in Oxford and surrounding area

This summary is made from all the tables of bell data on this website.

The main Counties are Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Three towers with a total of 14 bells are in other Counties.

There are two categories of bell for which the date of casting is not known.

  • unknown - this is used for bells with no date in their inscription (if any) and which have been inspected by an expert who could not decide when the bell was cast by looking at its shape and other characteristics
  • blank - this is used for mostly modern bells which may have a date in their inscription but we have not yet been told what it is.

Select a link from the table below to see a list of the actual bells, their founders and dates in that category.

Note Since the change in County Boundaries of 1974 it is not possible to compare the table below with those given in F.Sharpe's books on the Bells of Berkshire and Oxfordshire. The boundaries of Bucks have also changed but not as much so this table is closer to that given by A.H.Cocks.
