Good striking is something that we should all strive for. Competitions can encourage us to make the effort to strike better by providing a periodic focus on striking. If you have never rung in one:
Ringers from different towers meet and chat as well as ringing. Each team rings for about 10 minutes plus time to get used to the bells), ringing whatever they are comfortable with – a method, call changes or rounds.
You spend more time listening to other teams, chatting in the churchyard and over tea, than ringing your test piece, so overall it can be quite relaxing.
The results are based solely on striking. There may be friendly rivalry between a few teams but for most it’s about taking part and trying to ring well, rather than the possibility of winning. Judges invariably say kind things about inexperienced teams.
We want to understand why fewer of our members take part in the competitions than they used to, and whether we could change them in any way to be more attractive.
It will help us if you could answer these questions below. We want your personal views, not the collective view of others in your tower. Published results will be based on aggregate of all responses received. Any comments quoted will be anonymous. Your name will be kept private.
